Module Learning Outcomes to be Assessed:-
This module is designed to give students an opportunity to be an individual contributor, working on a project team to define, plan and manage a project. Particular focus is given to hands-on practice of the processes, developing a project plan, and using project management software to build and then present the project team results in class with a debrief of key points.
This module introduces Project Management and identifies the tools and techniques to resolve problems associated with bringing projects in on time and within an established budget. Discussion will include topics such as project scheduling, PERT/CPM, resource levelling, team dynamics and cost estimates. The student will learn how to develop project proposals and project reports
The student will learn the primary elements of Project Management to such an extent that he/she is able to develop a detailed project plan for a small or large- scale project. Additionally, the student will become familiar with negotiation, team building and quantitative estimation skills.
This module also focuses on both the manufacturing and service businesses and the internal and external operations involved at all levels of the supply chain in a global environment. Students will learn how the coordination of all the functions within these operations impacts on the movement and delivery of goods and/or services to the right place at the right time. Emphasis is placed on the importance of adopting a “total systems” approach by the firm and its networks, which enhance the value adding activities of the supply chain and its logistical application to achieve customer satisfaction. The module also demonstrates the strategic importance of developing and implementing comprehensive operations for both these types of business.

Upon the successful completion of the module, the student should be able to:

• Be able to devise and implement a project management plan
• Work effectively within a project team
• Understand the contexts for project management and project planning in a localized and/or global context
Case Study
Abbott Housing Trust was formed in 1933 by Margaret Hill, CBE, whose primary objective was to “convert houses for the occupation of more than one family” and to aid ‘old aged pensioners’.
Our first acquisition was in Pembroke Road in April of that year. The trust grew rapidly over the first few years. By 1938 – when the trust’s core focus was based around caring for and accommodating old and incapacitated men and women – 41 houses had been acquired and divided into 175 flats, providing affordable accommodation for 416 people.
Today, Abbott Housing Trust owns and manages 385 properties within the London Borough of Haringey. In 2013 we celebrate our 80th Birthday.
One third of our housing stock is ‘older persons’ housing, consisting of five high quality and relatively modern sheltered housing schemes. The remaining two thirds of our stock is largely general needs housing typically located in large converted Victorian/ Edwardian houses. Our homes are situated within the Abbott, Crouch End, Harringay and Tottenham areas of the London Borough of Haringey
Our tenants are involved in monitoring our performance, recruiting staff and in decisions about the future.
Nearly half of our tenants are from ethnic minority backgrounds, and our staff speak different languages so we can be sure everyone’s needs are understood. Much of our stock is already at Decent Homes standard and we are working to Decent Homes Plus. We provide a local and responsive maintenance service.

• Work with local agencies to tackle anti social behaviour and work under the Partnership Protected Areas to ensure residents are safe in their homes

Tasks: To Develop a fully functional ecommerce website for the Trust
As part of your preparation for the development of the system, you have been asked to make an appointment to see the User Management of the system. The users main stakeholders are Jerry Langham (Head of Trust) & Tracy Barlow (Director of Finance).
The business analysts and usability experts are planning to carry out a systems analysis on a current project for the trust.
1. Identify 5 other key stakeholders and conduct a stakeholder analysis discussing potential areas of conflict and how this would be managed. (20 marks)
2. Using a few paragraphs, describe two different development life cycles models (Software Life Cycles) and their suitability for this IT Project. (20 marks)
3. Choosing one of the above, describe the features, advantages, disadvantages of the methodology using a few paragraphs. (20 marks)
